Pompeius actually: Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus, roman Statesman und military leader, 106 - 48 b.Chr. Commanded the campaign against Mithradates (who had revolted against Rome). In the course of this successful campaign her conquered 64 b.Chr. the city of Pontus at the Black Sea and made the territory a roman province. P. later allied with Caesar and Crassus for the so called "triumvirate".

Sauromates nomadic people of the steppes, divided into seaveral tribes, from the 8th to the 4th century b.Chr., lived East of the Wolga, South of the Ural. They displaced the Scythes from their areas west of the Don and advanced in the first century b.Chr. to the Carpathes. Finally overrun by the Gothes and Huns.

Theseus Legendary national hero of Athens. Son of the Aigeus, King of Athens. He is attributed deeds similar to those of Herakles.
Troia Also known under the name Ilion. Greek colonial city near the city Hissarlik in todays Turkey. Excavations by Schliemann et al. confirm the destruction at 1240 b.Chr.(Troia VII). But the place was inhabited already in the younger stone age (4000 years b.Chr).
Troian War Paris, prince of Troia, Son of Priamos, abduces Helena, the wife of Menelaos, King of Sparta. Together with his brother Agamemmnon and the allied Greeks he does, however, not succeed in 10 years of siege to conquer the city. This happens only after a ruse of war. Homer describes in his epos "Iliad" the final war over the city.
