About these pages

Feb 2001 |
The author of these pages is in no way a historian. From his education there have remained only some fragments of knowledge about and much interest in the ancient world. He also is no web-designer (whatever that might be), but slightly an amateur. On both fields "knowledgeable Thebans" may, for that matter, detect defects and flaws. Also, in the English version there definiteley remains much to amend.
Please bear with me, but put me wise. Only by this I am able to rectify the blemishes. Especially thankful I will be for advice that will enable to round up and enlarge the humble content of these pages.
Who is behind?
My name is Eckard Wolff-Postler, I have been born 1941 and after school, 12 years of military service, and 12 years aboard merchant vessels found may way to computing. |
I have to extend thanks
- There is Kess, who gave valuable advice and tips.,
- and Gilian, who hosts these pages on her web space.
- Special thanks go to Sr. José Manuel Ortega Vera who was kind enough to translate these pages into Spanish.
- The Antikensammlung der Universität Würzburg generously gave permission to use a picture from one of their valuable vases.
- Dr. Jeannine Davis-Kimball was kind enough to permit using pictures of her findings and put a link to her very interesting pages.
- Mr. Mag.Gerhard Pöllauer, Netzwerk zur Amazonenerforschung kindly permitted the use of the little statue and to link to his pages.
- Other pictures on these pages, if not otherwise mentioned, are pictures I have adapted myself. I have tried to receive permission to use better pictures and wrote to the owners, but either they demanded absurd prices, rejected permission, or didn't answer at all.
Last but not least
The texts on these pages I have translated, compiled, or quoted originally from the works of the antique writers Herodot, Pausanias Lysias, Quintus Smyrnaeus und Diomedes. Other sources are mentioned within the texts.
Should I in doing so infringe anyones rights, this is definitely unintentional and I request to indicate it, so I can refrain from doing so.
