There is so much to say about Ken and so few words to put it in.
I have been a fan of Ken’s books for decades now. A long time I even didn’t know that I was a fan of Ken Bulmer because of his many pseudonyms. But eventually I got aware that the creator of my favourite fantasy worlds was Ken Bulmer. I loved his way of writing and the way he formed his heroes. I felt like I was really there on the worlds he created. This was most intense with Kregen, the planet of the Dray Prescot Series. Somehow I felt that Ken was a likeminded soul to me. His books influenced my life and helped me to evolve to the person I am.
When I got the opportunity to visit him, I was happy to do so. First time for only 2 days in 2001, then two times (summer 2001 and spring 2002) for a couple of days.
This time we had together is very valuable to me. I found the man who I already knew through his books. He was open-minded and full of humour.
We shared thoughts, laughter, TV, yes even a little competition. He even bothered to read my fan fiction and gave me a lot of useful hints about writing (and leg-pulling).
There is so much more to say about him, but most of all I want to say, that I not only hold Ken in high regard as a writer but also as a human, humorous, decent, full of dignity and with more courage than he conceded.
I miss you, Ken.
You will live on in my heart.
Hai Jikai!

Lahal and lahal, doms,
I personally haven't felt like this since the passing of Robert Heinlein. Ken's works, particularly the Dray Prescot series, have always been a source of inspiration and entertainment to me. In the wake of losing my own father just six weeks ago, this has come as quite a blow. I have lit a candle for him and his family, and my heart and thoughts go out to them in this time of great loss.
Ken, if you can hear us from where you are at, may you be lifted to sit by the right hand of Zair, and may your works shine as the hyr lifs that we know them to be.
Remberee, Old Dom, Remberee,
Flynn

Though I read your books for many years, I felt that I only KNEW you for a short time. The traditional telephone call to Tunbridge Wells was one of the highlights of the Draycons. It was an opportunity for us to express our appreciation, but it also enabled us to ask for clarification on obscure points in the series.
I regret most that we never got around to holding a Draycon in Tunbridge Wells so that Ken could have been present in person instead of only by telephone.
Rest in peace with the knowledge of the pleasure you have brought to so many fans.

my heart sufferd as the message gets me, i dont know how to bring my words out into English, cuz my English is so bad, and thats the Point why i never visited Ken i was allways fearing, the famaly would fear annother Fan, one with bad Language and more like me comming, well dam myself for not moving to him, i had so many Questions to him so many things to speak over, and now all whats left is the Memory what i heared from other Fans, and what i can read from his books, Ken may be gone now, but he will never be forgotten as long People can read his books....
And i wish Kens Dream come true see more People setting Foot in his Steps and Continue his Work, then i remember that he was very proude about that..
For a writer, for a human Lifetime, what reward could be bigger?
I would say not Gold not Money but the love that People share with all what he did, thats the true Reward the hearth of People wich he meet in his Lifetime and over his books, is a Reward u dont can buy...
my best wishes

Although I never met Ken Bulmer, I have most of his writings. He was kind, gentle, shy man who would go out of his way to help others. The world is poorer with his death. My heart felt sorrow at your loss to his family!

I had the opportunity to speak with Ken via phone at DrayCon 1. I, like many assumed I would have more time to connect with those whom we care about. One of the things I would like all to know is how much Ken's writings helped me through a difficult time in my life. Oddly enough his stories of incredible people in far of places helped me to look past my problems and see the adventure in my own life.
Gone but never forgotten,

Hai Jikai! My old dom has shipped off to the Ice Floes of Zicce, and to the sunny uplands beyond. Thank you, thank you for inspiring a troubled teen back in 1972. Although tiredness is a sin, and one must always hitch up the belt, you can sit down to a rest and a wet now, my old mate, By Mother Zinzu the Blessed and Beng Dikkane. Alas we could not complete the work, but I was proud to make you a pioneer back in 1995. Llahal and Lahal, Happy Swinging, and never Remberee. May Opaz shine upon you, always. Now you, as well as your imagination, will fly as free as the Zim Korf.

As well as being an influence on my own writing, Ken's work as Alan Burt Akers taught me much as a teenager about the concepts of honor, dignity, and respect for my fellow humans. His work taught me about the dangers of taking the easy way out, and of the discipline required to do the right thing. Those were good lessons.
Thank you, Ken,

I'm not really sure what to say. I never met Ken, though I was invited to and wanted to. Now, I never can. But I did converse with him several times and will hold memories of them near to my heart.
I first "knew" of Ken as Alan Burt Akers, the author of the Dray Prescot Saga and the best damn series I've ever read. I finally discovered that Akers (and so many other authors whose books I owned), was Ken Bulmer. His phone call to me in the nineties was both a shock and revelation. The former because a famous author had called me (in response to a fan letter I had written), and the latter because I found out that the adventures of Dray Prescot continued after "The Warlord of Antares," but alas in German only. Still, hope was planted and has since been nurtured.
In the last ten years I got to know Ken, some of his family and even a friend of two. All became part of the whole and I discovered that as much as I loved the Saga of Dray Prescot, I loved Ken Bulmer the man, more.
I'll leave this site for now and may return. Honestly, I haven't quite had a chance to absorb the fact that our Old Dom has died. Our world is a lesser place for his passing but I do hope that adventures on Kregen continue. Ken would like that...
Happy Swinging Ken, in the Sunny Uplands!

I re-read very few novels, but the Dray Prescot series from Ken is one of those...er...37 of those select few that I have re-read three or four times over the last 30 years. Imagination combined with an easy to read prose kept me hooked.
And that is how talent can enthrall someone never met, and connect those who share an appreciation of that talent.
May the twin suns always shine.

Ken,
Lhahal and Lahal, I have never met you but I have known your work on the Dray Prescott series all my life. I first started reading your work when I was 17 years old. I loved the series. When the internet came on and I found this Yahoo group I immediatly went out and bought up the whole series. I have read it twice in the past three years. I'll start again soon.
Happy Swinging and Remberee

God Bless you, Ken, and keep you always. You have left a legacy that shall persist, and indeed created a high standard to which to aspire. Hai Jikai! Rememberee!
