The above compilation consists of some 27 books although there are definitely more than 40, and likely yet more again concerning Robert E. Howard's character, Conan. I gave up somewhere in the mid-30's! To read the above books going by the volume number would not give an accurate picture of the life of Conan from that of a young man in his teens to an older one in his sixties when he was last heard of in Conan of the Isles. In fact, to read the saga in internal chronological order it is necessary to ignore the cover numbers and read through the list above from top to bottom. Sometimes, this necessitates reading two books together since there are overlaps. It is not necessary to read all the books, of course, but as long as you keep to the order of the list above you will be okay and will avoid jumping from one period in Conan's life to another, and then back again.

It is beyond the scope of this compilation to list all the authors who contributed to this series. However, of all the books that have several internal titles it would be safe to say that these were either written , started, or at least drafted by Robert E. Howard himself. Lin Carter, L. Sprague de Camp and Björn Nyberg were mainly responsible for the editing and finishing of incomplete Howard stories and also to adding to the series themselves. Some of the titles listed above were written by other authors, and there are yet more titles not listed here. In fact, there is likely a Conan novel being written somewhere right now as you read this; so, obviously, the above list is not, and never really can be, complete.

I would be grateful to anybody who could provide me with a more comprehensive list than the one above if they possess one, or failing that, informing me of where one can be obtained.

Cordially, Tim Jones.
